Story behind the song
The Bridge.
When you write a song, you expect the listener to pay attention, and so, it’s a good idea to keep it simple. The listener needs to be able to follow the tune, or he'll loose interest. Also, the listener should feel that there could have been more added to the tune, that you haven't done everything to the song that could have been done. That's not a bad thing. It gives the song a feeling of fullness. So don't try to write down every idea that comes to your mind. Have pity on the listener. Let him or her fill in some of the blanks. On the other hand, at some point in the song it is ok to surprise the listener and take him to some unexpected complexity, but only after you've made them comfortable. Don't throw the complexity at them from the start. And return to something they can digest after the complex stuff. So you basically take the listeners on a journey. They're paying attention, they're willing to go along, but they have to be able to see the road for themselves. You can't make it too cluttered or you'll loose them. And believe me: they know what sounds good and what does not sound good. You can't fool'm.
So the song is not all about this one particular trick, or this one particular sound. It's an overall impression from start to finish. You have to pay attention to the form. Actually, I've been somewhat lazy, and this song could use a lot of refining, as far as the form goes. But I think I've been pretty honest about making a complete musical statement from beginning to end. I don't dislike it. I hope you don't dislike it either.
