Okay, okay, so I'm just one guy. But in the studio, I'm an entire band. I play electric and 6 & 12 string acoustic guitars, mandolin, bass, keyboards, and drums plus do all the vocals and write all the music. I'm self taught and don't read music except for maybe chord charts. Well maybe not entirely self taught-mom got me started since she was a guitarist/mandolinist herself. But she played by ear too so guess that's where I got it. Not that I didn't do my time in various bands. The last, Legacy, was a full time road band until 1983 when I finally got to a space in my life where I told myself there's got to be a better way than just playing covers for a living. And then I found digital recording. Way cool...........

Story behind the song
The original song was written back in 1974. I pulled it out of the archives, so to speak, and rewrote it for the album. It camr from my experience in working in a factory where we did a lot of metal stamping and also made aluminum tennis rackets. The drudgery of it all was quite depressing and this song came out of that frustration.
Lyrics
©2006 Words and Music By Mark Cullen Io Music Ltd. All Rights Reserved The sun's never up this early He'd rather be asleep The roads are dim and dreary On the way to the factory The lights are few and lonely Is this life worth what it can buy? And you wonder if he's happy Can't you see it in his eyes? Gathered around the coffee machine On the cracked and dirty floor Bob's wife is gonna leave him Must have heard it ten times before Richie's got his meth addiction Tries to keep it out of sight And Harry has got the shakes again Will he make it through 'till night *A working man's day is always the same The sun comes up and the day goes down A working man's day is always insane Waiting for that whistle to sound They punch the clock at the end of the day and make their way back home To watch some mindless TV or maybe get stoned Then it's early to bed 'cause it's early to rise And you wonder if they're happy Can't you see it in their eyes? * (Chorus)
