The Dog Gods are from Asheville, NC and officially formed in 2007 with front man and songwriter Jason Tobin on vocals and rhythm/lead guitar. The original members included Mac Smith on drums Jason McMahan on bass and Tobias Weaver on rhytm/lead guitar. The bands debut album was recorded years earlier with hired musicians by Jason Tobin to realize a childhood dream to write and record a Rock album. The result of that effort caught the attention of the musicians that would become the original lineup. Jason Tobin's dream began as a teenager with childhood friend Shane Paul Rhody. They began playing guitar together and then writing songs together, some of which were used on the debut album. They went they're separate ways into adulthood with Shane tragically dying homeless in Los Angeles. The third album Dominion, was dedicated to his memory. After the second album, (Storm of Goodbyes) was released,.... two members (Mac Smith and Jason McMahan) where lost just before the recording of Dominion. As a result of this, a childhood friend of the band members that had left (Warren Jeffery Hawk) stepped in to drum and bass during the recording sessions. The third album Dominion was released in 2009. At the time and (due to circumstances beyond the bands control), Dominion was intended to be the last. The fourth album, (Remnants) was designed as an outtake album to put a finish to it all even though the beginnings of the (Beyond the Gates) sessions were underway. With a new lineup,....Micheal Wayne Honeycutt on drums, Andy Bishop on bass and original member Tobias Weaver,....Jason Tobin began writing the Beyond the Gates album. The album is missing three tracks that began the sessions but were placed on what was the outtake Remnants album because Tobin thought he wouldn't be able to get to the recent album in a reasonable amount of time. Andy Bishop has stepped in to co write some of the material and co produce. Beyond the Gates has eight tracks with two bonus tracks. The bands future is in question at the moment due to circumstances stemming from the Dominion sessions. The Dog Gods record at Giraffe Studios in Hendersonville, NC owned and operated by Andy Bishop.
